Winter is almost here, and it is starting to get cold. While most of us are busy shopping and wrapping Christmas gifts, it is crucial never to forget to prepare your home for the upcoming winter season. You and your family’s comfort should be your number one priority.

Desert Star Heating and Air lists some tips on how you can keep your HVAC system in tiptop condition in time for the winter season:

Clean the filters and vents

If you want your HVAC to last for a long time, the first thing that you should always remember is to replace the filter every month. Your HVAC’s filter can easily get dirty and clogged, especially if you use it every day. While you are at it, vacuum the air vents as well. Clogged air vents will not be as effective in warming up your house.

Test the thermostat

Try turning your thermostat on when it is cold enough, and see how long it takes for your whole house to get warm. If it takes longer than usual or it does not get warm at all, then you have a problem.

Have it checked by a professional

You should have your HVAC system checked by a professional at least once or twice a year. Sure, you can replace the filter and clean the vents yourself, but you would not really know if there is something wrong with your system unless you have it checked by a professional. There are a lot of companies who offer HVAC maintenance including 24-hour emergency services, furnace replacement, and repairs.

Nothing beats the feeling of having a warm cup of cocoa while sitting in your cozy living room, with your HVAC working perfectly fine during the winter.
