Most people think residential and commercial relocation is an easy task. There are, however, multiple aspects involved in relocation, which make it one of the hardest things you might need to deal with. One of the critical issues that require expertise in relocation is the packaging of your delicate items. These include valuable belongings and fragile items, such as antique vases or pottery, glassware, and other breakables.

You might assume that this simply involves wrapping your delicate items in bubble wrap and putting them in a box. However, this tricky task handled by most van line companies at a small fee involves more than just that. You don’t use just any bubble wrap you see at home or at the store. There is an appropriate packing material for a specific item.

The following are the bubble wrap types that the moving company you work with might recommend for different items:

Foam-Backed Bubble Wrap

Unlike the standard bubble wrap, this material contains an added layer of foam that provides extra protection for the item being wrapped and transported. This allows for additional surface protection of your items without reducing your packing space. Foam-backed wraps absorb light impact during transit, which could otherwise damage other unprotected or unwrapped goods. They are ideal for moving objects that have a fragile finish, such as those containing stone or gloss paint.

Self-Adhesive Bubble Wrap

This is considered a cheaper alternative to using double-sided tape and a standard bubble wrap. It has an adhesive that allows it to remain intact and come off easily without leaving any smudges. Self-adhesive bubble wrap is often used for objects with a sensitive surface. These include TVs, computers, glass, and furniture.

These items are so sensitive they can easily break with just a minimal impact or force. Using self-adhesive bubble gives you peace of mind, knowing that your belongings are safe from damage during transit.

Anti-Static Bubble Wrap

Standard bubble wrap might allow static accumulation around the wrapped items. The static can irreparably damage items that are prone to electrostatic discharge damage, such as laptops, smartphones, and other electronic gadgets. Anti-static bubble wrap is used to wrap these items because it minimizes their risk of damage.

Importance of Using the Right Bubble Wrap Type

If you use the wrong type of bubble wrap for your delicate items, you run the risk of dealing with irreparable damages or losses. You don’t want to discover that your TV screen was broken during transit when you unpack in your new home. Before you sign the contract, ask your prospective mover if they offer packing services. If so, then ask them which type of bubble wrap they use for the items they transport.

It is not easy for you to differentiate these types of bubble wraps since they generally look similar. That said, parting with a small fee for your items’ packing is the best option. This way, you can be sure that the movers will use the right bubble wraps to get your delicate items to their destination in one piece.
